🍓 Make It With Me: Strawberry Seed Scrub & Skin Silk Balm

By Michelle at Beauty at No 38

There’s something deeply rewarding about making your own skincare. Not only do you get to choose beautiful, skin-loving ingredients, but you’re also creating something personal and nourishing with your own hands. In this blog, I’m sharing two of my most loved creations: my Strawberry Seed Body Scrub and Skin Silk Balm. These two pair beautifully together, giving your skin a spa-like glow with every use — and yes, you can make them too!

🍓 Strawberry Seed Body Scrub

This workshop favourite is all about glow and softness. We combine a mix of finely milled and gentle natural exfoliants with rich butters and silky oils, creating a luxurious scrub that brightens and smooths the skin.

The base begins with strawberry powder, a powerhouse of vitamin C and antioxidants. It helps boost collagen, brighten dull skin, and gently exfoliate. Coconut powder brings nourishment and hydration, while also helping to calm irritation. Then there’s rice powder, a centuries-old beauty staple known for absorbing excess oil and softening the skin’s texture — a secret weapon for radiance!

Of course, the star of the show is our strawberry seeds — tiny but mighty exfoliators that lift away dead skin cells and reveal a refined, healthy-looking glow. These are suspended in a beautifully rich base of shea butter and Monoi de Tahiti butter, which melt into the skin, offering deep moisture and softness. The Monoi, infused with gardenia petals, also brings a calming, floral touch that’s a joy to work with.

I also use lecithin to help bind everything together while restoring the skin’s natural barrier, and jojoba wax to lock in moisture without clogging pores. To finish, we blend in a nourishing mix of argan oil and jojoba oil, two incredibly light yet effective emollients that help condition and balance the skin. A dash of vitamin E offers antioxidant support and promotes healthy glow. The result? A beautiful scrub with a soft texture that leaves your skin smooth, hydrated, and happy.

🛠 How We Make It – In the Workshop

In the class, I guide you through every step:

We begin by combining our dry phase — the strawberry powder, coconut powder, rice powder and strawberry seeds — making sure the blend is even.

Next, we gently melt our butter and wax blend over a bain-marie — shea, Monoi, lecithin and jojoba wax — stirring until it's fully liquid and smooth.

Once cooled to around 40°C, we stir in the oil phase: golden argan oil, soothing jojoba oil, vitamin E, and a hint of strawberry fragrance (just enough for a light, fruity finish), along with a skin-safe preservative to keep your scrub fresh.

Then comes the fun part — blending everything together until you get that perfect wet sand texture. It’s always lovely watching people in the workshop feel proud of what they’ve created. We finish by popping the scrub into jars, labelling, and of course, chatting about how to use and store it properly.

✹ Skin Silk Balm

After exfoliating, I always recommend following with a balm, and this one is truly a treat for the skin. My Skin Silk Balm is made to glide on like velvet, leaving behind no greasy residue — just softness, calm and a subtle, powdery finish.

I start with Camellia seed oil and watermelon seed oil, two lightweight but powerful oils that absorb beautifully, delivering moisture without heaviness. Shea butter oil adds extra nourishment, especially for dry or weather-worn skin. The real magic, though, comes from Cera Bellina — a wonderful plant-based wax that improves the balm’s texture and makes it spread like silk. It helps keep everything stable, stops oil separation, and gives the balm its rich-yet-light feel.

Once melted and cooled slightly, I stir in rice starch for a smooth, dry-touch finish. This small addition makes a big difference — it turns a good balm into a truly luxurious one.

Why Make Your Own Skincare?

There’s nothing quite like knowing exactly what’s in the products you’re putting on your skin — and that you made them yourself. You’ll leave the workshop with a deeper understanding of ingredients, confidence in your own formulating skills, and two gorgeous products to take home and enjoy.

Whether you’re already a skincare enthusiast or just starting to explore the world of natural beauty, I’d love to see you at a workshop. It’s a lovely way to spend a few hours — learning, creating, and connecting with like-minded people in a friendly, relaxed space.
